ABSTRACT

Background and aim : The COVID-19 pandemic is a global health and societal emergency that requires the adoption of unprecedented measures to control the rapid spread of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic. The aim of the research was to know the self perception of the impact of covid 19 pandemic among dental students. Methodology: This survey was conducted using a self administered questionnaire that was circulated among dental students. The questionnaire comprised 10 questions through which the knowledge, attitude were determined. The statistical analysis was done using SPSS software. The responses from the Google sheet were transferred into excel and were then imported to SPSS software. Total of 100 participated in this survey. Only completely filled forms were taken in for analysis. Frequency and percentage was used for description, Chi square test was done as inferential statistics. Results: From the results of the present study it was seen that 89.16 % of the participants hesitated to work with patients who suspected Covid 19 and 79% of the participants felt that Covid 19 pandemic affected their practical skill acquisition. Association of year of study and what do the dental students think about dentists' role in teaching others about Covid 19. It was seen that the majority of the participants had responded that the dentist role in teaching others about covid 19 is very significant. The Chi square analysis was done and the association was found to be statistically significant, p-value being 0.027 (p<0.05). In the association between year of study and if the students feel that covid 19 pandemic affects your practical skill acquisition. Majority of the participants had responded yes covid 19 pandemic affected their practical skill acquisition. Conclusion: In this study, Students were aware of the impact of COVID-19 and took serious precautionary measures. However, following strict infection control protocols and periodic orientation of students to these protocols are ways to guarantee a safer environment for both patients and students to overcome the pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Background : The aim of this study was to estimate the awareness which clinical students have on vaccination since they have higher chances of exposure.The COVID-19 vaccine may play a role in establishing herd immunity, and there is an importance in addressing vaccine hesitancy through well-developed and empirically-based education campaigns. Methods and methods : We conducted a cross-sectional study among 100 clinical students in different colleges in Chennai. They were asked basic questionnaires regarding COVID-19 pandemic and their knowledge and willingness for vaccination. The data were collected in excel and analysed using SPSS. Results : In this study, clinical students have participated and completed the questionnaire. In that 59% were male and 41% were female. 13% males had taken vaccines in the last 14 days in comparison to 39% females who had taken vaccines in the last 14 days. 18% males and 34% females had experienced Covid before. 38% males and 69% females were willing to take booster vaccines. 61% males and 65% females are feeling nervous about vaccines. 44% males and 47% females will encourage others to take up vaccines. 28% males and 52% females were working during Covid. Conclusion : Prevalence of vaccination and COVID-19 disease was higher among females in our population. Further, a higher percentage of female students (69%) were willing for vaccinations compared to males (38%). So the clinical students should take every step to be safe and should make the patients feel safe.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION-Corona virus disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus causes severe Chronic pain management during COVID-19 pandemic is a challenging process. Management of pain was an important task during the pandemic due to safety protocols and safety measures as the disease showed spread through aerosols. Thus, this study shows the comparison of pain management before covid-19 and during the pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHOD-The study was conducted in Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, with patients visiting for a period between september 2019 and march 2020. This study was donew based on the pain management records consisting of 151 patients reporting to the out patient ward of saveetha dental college. Patient age ,gender, emergency treatment done as per the records were collected. Telephonic and photographic cross verification of data was done by two examiners. The obtained data was entered in Ms Excel spreadsheet and the tabulated data was subjected to statistical software IBM SPSS version 20.0. Descriptive inferential statistics were done. RESULTS-151 participants took part in the study out of which 63 participants were males and 88 participants were females. The study showed that 22 participants were aged from 0-20, 75 participants were aged between 20-40 years and 54 participants were aged >40 years of age. The study also showed that 66 participants had undergone emergency extraction, 30 participants had undergone emergency access opening and 55 participants were given medications for pain management.correlation between gender and emengery procedure for the management of pain showed that, 26 males underwent emergency extraction, 14 males underwent emergency access opening and 23 males underwent medication management for pain management and 40 females underwent emergency extraction, 16 females underwent emergency access opening and 32 females underwent medication management CONCLUSION-The study showed that pain management was done with increased prevalence during the pandemic and the most common procedure done was emergency extraction which had the highest frequency.

ABSTRACT

Background: Dental caries is the most commonly seen disease in a population. It develops when bacteria in the mouth metabolize sugars to produce acid that demineralizes the hard tissues of the teeth. Nutrition indirectly affects oral health and with effective nutritional counselling initiation of dental caries can be controlled. Aim: The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of dental caries and nutritional counselling during COVID-19. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in the outpatient of Dental College and Hospital. The data was reviewed and analysed from the records of a total number of 86000 patients between March 2020 to June 2020. Patients with active dental caries were included in this study. The data was manually verified by 2 reviewers and finally tabulated and imported to SPSS and the results were drawn. Results: Out of the total population majority of them were males are 494 when compared with females are 448. Majority of the patients 46(4.7%) who belong to the age group 21-30 yrs have high need for diet counselling. Majority of males 58(5.9%) high need for diet counselling. Conclusion: The study result concluded that Males were more affected than females. Males need poor nutritional status and diet counselling is needed for them when compared with the female patients

ABSTRACT

Background and Aim: Despite reductions in prevalence in recent years, tobacco smoking remains one of the main preventable causes of ill-health and premature death worldwide. This paper reviews the extent and nature of harms caused by smoking, the benefits of stopping, patterns of smoking, psychological, pharmacological and social factors that contribute to uptake and maintenance of smoking, the effectiveness of population and individual level interventions aimed at combating tobacco smoking, and the effectiveness of methods used to reduce the harm caused by continued use of tobacco or nicotine in some form. Therefore, this study aims to create awareness of Covid-19 infections and smoking among the smoker's population. Material and Methods: This was a survey-based and conducted on an online form, google form. It was taken by 100 participants with smoking habits. The questionnaire was framed to evaluate the idea and knowledge on the impact of smoking on covid-19 infections. Results: The total sample size of the current study was 100 participants with smoking habits. In this survey, among the participants, 59% were negative for covid-19 infections and 41% were positive for covid 19 infections. 36% of the study population were the 36-55 years old age group, followed by 18-35 years with 34% and above 56 years with 30%. The majority of consumption of cigarettes in the age group 36-55 years and numbers of cigarettes were higher in the age group above 55 years. The majority of the responses from the age group 36-55 years, Age group 36-55 years were responded no for the question asked as they think recovery time may vary for smokers from COVID 19 infection. Conclusion: Within the limit of this it is seen that the participants were aware of the effect of smoking on covid 19 infections.
